Infernal Source Dig Site - RuneScape Guide (2024)

The Infernal Source is a large dig site spanning several areas. It can be excavated starting at level 20, after you obtain an invitation, and its last Hotspots can be accessed at level 116. There are a total of 5 different Cache types, 6 Research locations, and 4 Mysteries.

The sections below will give you details concerning each section of the dig site.

Outside


Infernal Source Dig Site - RuneScape Guide (1)

Outside of the Infernal Source there are no Hotspots, Cache, Research, or Mysteries. There is simply an Archaeologist workbench, a Material storage container, and a bank. To access these features of the site, you will need to decend into the dig site via the lift. The sections of this guide have been separated into the same quick travel location options you will have when you descend.

Hotspots

The Cellar section of the Infernal Source, you can find the following Hotspots:

Research

There is only 1 Research location within the Cellar. Keep in mind that you only need to have access to a Research Team to study the area. For the team to complete their research, however, you will need the appropriate level.

  1. Starry Eyed
    • Requirement: 40 Archaeology
    • Study: Star Lodge sign located West of the fireplace
    • Rewards: 1,333 Archaeology experience and Opulent wine goblet (damaged)

Mysteries

There is only 1 Mystery which can be completed in the Cellar. This Mystery is called "Eyes in their Stars" and requires 24 Archaeology. It can be completed by obtaining all 4 Founder's journal pages and repairing the fireplace. Doing so will earn you 1,300 Archaeology experience and access to the Dungeon of Disorder. Other

Throughout this area are also 6 chests. These can be opened to obtain various Materials and damaged Artefacts as well as complete the "Looting Stars" Achievement. Note that the chests can only be looted once.

  1. The Dark Underbelly
    • Requirement: 36 Archaeology
    • Study: Sacrificial altar North of where you enter the Dungeon
    • Rewards: 1,333 Archaeology experience and Ritual dagger (damaged)

Mysteries

There is only 1 Mystery which can be completed in the Dungeon of Disorder. This Mystery is called "Embrace the Chaos" and requires 29 Archaeology. It can be completed by obtaining all 4 Cultist's diary pages and repairing the portal to the Source. Other

Once you enter the Dungeon, directly North of you is an altar. Interacting with it once will unlock the Research "The Dark Underbelly". After this, you will be able to obtain the Hand of glory (Infernal Source) from the altar.

    • Study: Large door where you enter the Source
    • Rewards: 1,333 Archaeology experience and Imp mask (damaged)
  2. Deeper and Down
    • Requirement: 36 Archaeology
    • Study: Hellhound skulls displayed near the Byzroth remains
    • Rewards: 6,000 Archaeology experience and Spiked dog collar (damaged)

Mysteries

There is only 1 Mystery which can be completed in this section of the Source. This Mystery is called "Contract Claws" and requires 29 Archaeology and 37 Prayer, as well as completion of Eyes in their Stars, Embrace the Chaos, Land of the Goblins and Rocking Out (or The Feud). It can be completed by learning the names of all of the gragoyles. Doing so will earn you 1,400 Archaeology experience. Other

Note that transporting across islands via the Chaos and Dagon portals is not 100%.Sometimes you will end up in an unintended area. Talking to Mephisto and solving his slider puzzles will reduce the chances of this problem (part of the Die! Die! Die! achievement), but there's a better method. To solve this issue, simply add a repaired Chaos star to your toolbelt or carry one in your inventory.

    • Study: Hydra gate surrounding Dagon within the Hydraportal
    • Rewards: 23,809 Archaeology experience and Hellfire katar (damaged)

Mysteries

There is only 1 Mystery which can be completed in this section of the Source. This Mystery is called "Dagon Bye" and requires 68 Archaeology as well as completion of Embrace the Chaos and Contract Claws. It can be completed by freeing Dagon the Gatekeeper from his prison.
